Hoysala Temple Trails

If you are a temple lover, there is no better trail in Karnataka than the Hoysala temple trail. The Hoysala temple trail is a bespoke tour to the temple towns of Belur and Halebid along with Shravanabelagola and Melukote. The temples of Belur and Halebid represent the pinnacle of the architectural history in medieval Karnataka. Enroute the temples are the monolithic 58 feet statue of Bahubali at Shravanabelagola, considered as the first of India's 7 wonders, and the ancient seat of Vaishnavism at Melukote. Temples, religion and a whole lot of Indian philosophy here will give you a perspective on India's take on spirituality.

The entire tour can be customized to your needs. Tell us the duration that you prefer and the accommodation of your choice - we will plan the itinerary accordingly. We generally start and end the tour at Mysore but even that can be altered as per your needs. A minimum group of 2 people for the tour is recommended.

DAY 1

Melukote and Shravanabelagola

About the day

Kick off day 1 with history and mythology and head to the temple town of Melukote. Retread the paths of Sri Ramanujacharya, an iconic monk in India's religious history, and visit some of his favourite temples. Have a traditional lunch of Puliogare (tamarind rice), Sihi-Pongal (Jaggery rice) and Mosaranna (rice mixed with yoghurt) at an organic farm. Witness a one of its kind khadi (hand made cotton) weaving centre where you can even buy some organic khadi clothes. End the day by getting awed by the mega structure of the first of India's 7 ancient wonders - the monolithic statue of Bahubali at Shravanabelagola. Savour the authentic South Indian organic food for dinner at another organic farm and sleep on a tree house by the side of the river in the country side.

DAY 2

Belur and Halebid

About the day

Wake up to chirping birds, rippling water, sun light kissing you, fresh air. Watch the farmers at work while you simply relax or kayak in the river. Yes, you can go swimming also. Ever heard of the Hoysala Kingdom? Listen to the tales of one of the greatest dynasties to have ever ruled Karnataka.Explore the masterpiece of a temple that awaits you at Belur, at your own leisure. After a simple lunch at Belur, head to Halebid and spend the day walking on sites which are on the verge of being designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Admire the intricate stone carvings on the temple walls. Listen to some tales and imagine the kingdom come alive before your eyes. Capture what you see in your camera and carry the legends and warrior tales from this land in your heart as a souvenir before you head home.
